An emigration is arguably the biggest challenge in a family's life. We are your reliable partner and offer the expertise you need to master this challenge with flying colours.
Shipping My Life supports individuals and families through all phases of their international move – from the initial idea and logistics to the administrative processing.
Did you know that you can also hire a moving company in your destination country? The moving company that packs your belongings in your home country is then a partner company of the moving company you hire.
Depending on which country you are moving from and which country you are moving to, this can be very advantageous for you. The legal framework changes, and you often have better support with customs. On the other hand, this can mean that the partner company handling your move might not perform its duties optimally because it is not directly liable.
It is therefore very important to coordinate your international move well from the outset and keep track of all the intermediate steps.
If a moving company claims to handle moves to your destination country, this does not automatically mean that the company has already completed moves there or even has a partner on the ground.
Moving companies are experts at acquiring customers; in theory, of course, any internationally operating moving company can deliver to any country. Unfortunately, not every company can keep its loudly proclaimed promises.
Affluent households hire a professional moving organizer to manage the move and represent the family's interests. A moving company, of course, cannot do this; its primary focus is its own business.
In our consultation, we train you to become your own organizer.
We are likely the only consulting firm worldwide to offer this type of moving consultation.
You will then understand that the advertising slogan "We handle the moves of diplomats" actually describes a standard, not a badge of honour.
Some small details can have a big impact. The smaller the moving boxes, the more space you waste, the larger the final volume of the move, and the higher the costs.
Different households require different box sizes.
We help you find the optimal box sizes for your household items and also how you can expand your moving company's box selection. Some companies have a very limited range of boxes. This has safety, technical, and organizational consequences that you'll notice when you unpack and start setting up your new home.
Standardized packing methods reduce the moving company's administrative workload because the packing list summarizes many items. However, in most cases, you, the customer, are at a disadvantage because you have to gather everything yourself when you start setting up your new home. This significantly increases your workload.
International logistics is a multi-billion dollar industry with virtually no default risk.
As a customer, you have little leverage, especially since you have to pay all costs upfront before the moving company even packs a single cup. If there are discrepancies in the customs declaration or the container load, or if, for example, the moving company has loaded prohibited or restricted items (the classic example: a vase of plants with a living plant inside), the container remains in the port until all outstanding charges are settled.
Demurrage (delivery charges) is very expensive and must be avoided at all costs.
These are some of the points we address in our consultation.
We have developed a curriculum in 22 chapters, which we tailor to your needs during the initial planning phase.
We offer personal, reliable, and well-organized support beyond the initial moving consultation and are also available to assist you with insurance matters during and after your move, if desired.
