Moving Costs

Financial Basis

If you've already decided to emigrate, you've probably already come a long way.

If you're just starting to explore this topic, you still have that journey ahead of you.

In either case, you're among the few people responsible for the state of humanity. Where would we be now if our ancestors hadn't left the cosy comfort of their caves? Probably still in the same caves...

Most people prioritize comfort, security, and predictability. They're reluctant to leave their comfort zone and, consequently, rarely develop.

Most people only leave their homes in the face of force majeure, natural disasters, or war. And even then, usually too late...

It doesn't matter why you have wanderlust. Whether you're dissatisfied with the political, financial, or social situation in your home country. Whether you simply hope for a different, if not necessarily better, future for yourself and your children, or whether you want to change and gain new experiences. Perhaps you sense the opportunity of a lifetime in another corner of the world. Or perhaps you want to enrich your family with experiences abroad.

Or you or your partner are suddenly transferred to a different company location. And you ask yourself: "Why not?"

In each of these scenarios, the wheat has already been separated from the chaff.

Some are taking the first step in a marathon that will transform them into different people—more multifaceted, more cosmopolitan, more linguistically gifted, more experienced.

Others remain in their comfort zone until they are forced out against their will. Or they remain forever within their immediate surroundings.

Those who love their homeland and always want to remain connected to it may love it even more after spending a few years away.

We can only recommend that anyone who loves a comfortable life take the first step.

From our own experience, we can confirm the cliché: abroad, you discover who you truly are.

The primary goal should never be to leave your homeland forever. Rather, we should aim to expand our social, professional, and financial horizons.

Flag Theory

In a time of massive political change, the internationalization of many aspects of our lives is inevitable.

This topic is addressed under the term "flag theory."

The term is interpreted as: "Live where you are treated best." This applies in a social, economic, tax, and diplomatic sense.

In the course of internationalization, one simply diversifies one's investments and holds assets and equity stakes in several countries. This is possible even with small sums. The important thing is not to put all your eggs in one basket.

Having a second citizenship or a residence permit in a third country, along with a bank account there, makes one more flexible and less dependent on the volatility and developments of a single country.

When emigrating, one doesn't necessarily have to sell all of one's assets. It can be sensible to retain one's investments or real estate in one's home country initially and, if necessary, rent them out.

Keep in mind that in some countries, such as Germany and Austria, an "exit tax" is levied when you deregister for tax purposes. The tax office simulates a "sham sale" of any shareholdings, which is then taxed.

Moving Costs

The crucial question for many prospective emigrants is whether they can manage an international move.

This is indeed a very relevant issue, especially since the time frame for bringing household goods to your new country is very limited in most countries.

If the potential moving costs are a concern for you, rest assured, there are moving services available for every budget. We'll show you which solutions are feasible in your situation and where you can find potential savings.

If you're willing to contribute your own labour by "getting your hands dirty," savings of 50% or more are realistic. “Do it yourself” is a very effective way to save money.
