Logistics Basics
If you're planning to emigrate, logistics is essential. Your family and household will be relocated to a new location, utilizing global logistics channels.
What is Logistics?
Logistics is the umbrella term for coordinating the flow of goods. It encompasses the planning, transport, storage, and control of these flows. Goods include raw materials, materials, merchandise (including semi-finished products), and the associated information (orders, invoices, insurance policies, confirmations, etc.).
The ultimate goal is to ensure that goods are delivered to the designated location, to the appropriate customer, at the agreed-upon time, in the required condition, and at the lowest possible cost.
Returns management and recycling processes are also part of logistics.
Logistics is divided into various sub-areas:
Procurement logistics – ordering and sourcing raw materials and components for the production of a product within a company. Various "ingredients" must find their way from suppliers or producers to the company. Logistics coordinates procurement to ensure everything arrives on time.
Production logistics – planning and coordinating production processes within a given company. Production is coordinated so that the necessary "ingredients" arrive at their points of use within the company at the right time.
Distribution logistics – responsible for the delivery and shipping of the finished product, as well as handling returns.
Disposal logistics – disposal of packaging and old goods, as well as their integration into the recycling loop.
Relocation logistics – a sub-area of particular interest to us. This involves transporting property from one location to another. It includes private households, company inventory, living animals, museum exhibits, art, and much more.
Strictly speaking, all aspects of logistics utilize the same infrastructure: the same roads, the same waterways, the same containers, and in some cases, the same trucks and aircraft.
Moving is part of relocation logistics. Procurement logistics is also involved. Packing materials and the moving team must be transported to your location. The correct quantities and packing materials are crucial. Replenishment must be planned for.
The packing and loading process is similar to a company's production logistics.
Disposal logistics also plays a role in your move. After unpacking your belongings, the packing materials must be disposed of. Or reused, as we do...
Your household goods, whether in a container or air freight boxes, are considered goods and are subject to the general laws of logistics and international trade.
If you meet certain requirements, you can apply for tax exemption when moving internationally.
Decades ago, it was common practice to send a truck out fully loaded and receive it back empty.
For the past 30 years, very few empty trucks have been seen on the road.
With total digitalization and the global interconnectedness of all players, a system has been created that is global, fast, compact, and cost-effective.
Because everything is tightly scheduled and all processes follow one another, adherence to time frames is essential. The penalty is higher costs. This makes logistics a stressful niche where everyone has to be on their toes, including moving companies. Consequently, maintaining control over one's tasks is crucial. Because everything in logistics has to happen quickly and is highly repetitive, mistakes happen during moves—and a lot of them.
